Both in France and abroad, exams are the responsibility of the recteurs d’académies (superintendents overseeing several school districts) who manage the organization of examinations and issue the French national diplomas:
- The diplôme national du brevet (DNB), which assesses the knowledge and skills acquired by the end of middle school ;
- The baccalauréat, which validates the end of secondary schooling and allows access to higher education.
Each French school network abroad is assigned an académie, which is responsible for registering students for exams, sending examination subjects, harmonizing of exam papers correction and for convening deliberative juries.
Network schools may also award language certifications, which are issued by independent certifying organizations and recognize and promote students’ written and oral skills through an outside, standardized and universally accepted assessment.
